Sydney, Nova Scotia Phone: 564-9819 Fax: 564-1115 Website Whitney Pier Historical Museum is located at 88 Mount Pleasant St. in Whitney Pier. The Museum which used to be the local Synagogue was incorporated in 1988 by a group called “Friends of the pier” who wanted to preserve the historical & ethnic culture of Whitney Pier. There are now 70 active members, President Charlie Neville, Vice President Gordon Kiel, 2nd Vice President Simon Gillis, Treasurer Sandra Dunn, and Secretary Helen Carroll. Whitney Pier residents and guests from all over the world come to see the community’s rich cultural and steel industry history. It is such a joy to see all the well preserved artifacts, paintings, and photography clearly dedicated to the past, present and the future of Whitney Pier. The younger generation from grades primary to university take advantage of the museum for research on school projects, looking into there family tree, cultures, churches, steel plant and coal piers. The Museum receives guests from over 7000 cruise ships that come to see the museum every year. They have received an award from Sydney Ports Corp & Atlantic Cruise Ships Services for their valuable contribution to the enjoyment of the Cruise Ships Passengers. Hours of Operation: Open seasonaly from the 2nd week of June until the last week of August Monday - Friday 9 am - 4:30 pm Closed for lunch from 12 pm - 1 pm We are not open on Saturdays and Sundays BUT Small and large groups can book in advance to view on Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
